Uniforce Pakistan update: Maersk to invest $2 Billion at Karachi Port Trust (KPT

Maritime Affairs Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh announced last Thursday 30th May that European shipping company Maersk Line (without naming it) is interested to invest $2 billion on infrastructure and logistics at Karachi Port trust (KPT), it is expected that agreement will be finalized by end of October this year.

Said announcement come after recent visit of Maersk CEO Keith Svendsen to Pakistan,

Danish company has specifically showed interest at Karachi Port Trust since there are some areas where there is depth in sea and larger ships can be anchored.

Maersk also plans to establish shipbreaking yard as they intent to dismantle 750 ships in Pakistan, company also determined to provide training for Pakistan youth.

Maersk is a leading logistics and supply-chain provider in Pakistan, controls about 20% of the country’s containerized import-export market, according to information ministry of Pakistan. In January, Maersk announced the launch of new smart logistics and warehouse facilities in China, Norway, and Pakistan.
